Spotlight on a Music Scholar - Adam

Adam is an award winning drummer here at BSAK who started at the school age 11. Drums play a vital role in most band setups. Since the drums don’t produce any melodic notes, a drummer will take a more rhythmic approach to songs, providing beats and rhythms to benefit those songs. Drummers are important in a band because they act as the timekeeper, lead many of the song transitions, and help build intensity with the volume of the instrument. A drummer also provides a full sound for the band, creating an interesting aesthetic element as well as adding energy and showmanship to performances. Adam’s development as a drummer over the years has been phenomenal - he really is the backbone of so many ensembles here at BSAK and will be sorely missed. Here are some of Adam’s thoughts on what being a BSAK Music Scholar has taught him.

What do you enjoy about music?

It brings people together, it's a universal language, it is fun to perform and is generally expressive.

What difference has being a Scholar made to you?

It has provided me with multiple opportunities to play in ensembles, which I would not have taken part in, if I hadn’t been a scholar.

You are coming to the end of your time at BSAK. What musical memories do you have?

All the unplugged concerts, Friday Jams and especially YMOG with the Jazz Band. Sharing a hotel room with Cameron and Leo was also pretty cool!

Where do you see yourself taking music in the future when you go to Sixth Form and beyond?

I am hoping to do something in teaching or studio work and study drumming further as I continue my education.
