Welcome to the British School Al Khubairat. We have been at the heart of the community in Abu Dhabi since 1968. Over that time, we have evolved from a small school with a handful of pupils, to a modern, vibrant, highly respected British curriculum school with an enviable reputation across the region. We now have around 1,800 students of more than 50 nationalities, aged from three to 18-years-old. It is a not-for-profit school established formally by Amiri decree in 1971.
Our goal is to provide an education for the whole child. We aim to create an environment for students where they can thrive academically and socially and have the opportunity of participating in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
I am very proud that our high standards are recognised internationally. In our latest inspection report, carried out in March 2011 by the UK’s Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), The British School was rated ‘Excellent’ in all categories – the highest score available – with the inspectors remarking that the school was outstanding in several areas. The ISI is a prestigious body approved by the British government and it inspects all the top independent schools in England as well as key British Schools Overseas. The British School is the first school in Abu Dhabi to be inspected under the UK government’s Standards for British Schools Overseas. To see the report in full, please click here.
We are also the only school in the Gulf that is a member of all three of the prestigious associations that promote excellence in British education: The Council of British International Schools (COBIS) which accredits British schools of quality across the world; the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC), which represents 250 of the leading British independent schools; and the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) which represents the top 600 independent prep schools in the UK and worldwide.
If I were to describe The British School in one word, it would be 'energy'. The sheer range and number of activities and events going on in and around the school on a daily basis is remarkable. From music workshops with the likes of the London Philharmonia, the Bolshoi Orchestra and world-famous pianist Lang Lang, to a lively calendar of competitive fixtures in sports such as rugby, netball, cricket, hockey and football, as well as a whole host of clubs and after-school activities, the commitment and enthusiasm shown by the students and the staff is impressive.
I fervently believe that their experiences at The British School will prepare our students for life in an increasingly global society. Growing up and being educated in a truly multi-cultural community promotes a deep understanding and appreciation of other cultures, and enables our students to embark on life with a sense of optimism and confidence for the future.
