The Music Awards, now in their third year, took place at The Club on Tuesday 25 June, celebrating the fabulous year of music-making here at BSAK. The evening started with a review of the year given by Director of Music Rob Hall which highlighted the amazing array of events which have taken place including concerts, community days and competition successes. He also looked to the future and launched a number of new initiatives for next year including a new Primary Orchestra, a Primary Inter-house singing Competition and a Music Tour to Salzburg and Vienna for the summer of 2020.  

The evening included performances by students: Samar (who went on to receive an Outstanding Commitment Award) moved the audience with a passionate performance of 'I'd rather go blind', supported by a staff band; Dautari - complete with obligatory hat,  who received the Students Performer of the Year award amazed with his rendition of James Rae's East Coast Mainline; Inayah, who won the brass prize, gave a thorough demonstration of the tone colours that can be achieved on the French horn. Jonathan - winner of both the Upper Strings Prize and the Senior Musician of the Year gave a virtuosic performance of Wienawski's Polonaise Brillante and our YMoG winning Guitar Trio closed proceedings with a superlative performance of Baio de Gude. 

In addition to individual instrumental prizes, the evening also celebrated students who have shown tremendous commitment throughout the year to their studies and to co-curricular ensembles, and students who have shown real determination to improve on their instruments.  Alongside Jonathan being named Senior Musician of the Year, Emma and Clement were jointly named Primary Musicians of the Year.
