THE HOUSE SYSTEM
The house system is an integral part of life at The British School Al Khubairat. In 2012, the house system was streamlined so that the houses are the same throughout the whole school.
Our four houses are:
Cormorant (yellow) Dhabi (green) Falcon (red) Oryx (blue)
The main aims of the house system are to:
· Foster a whole school community and continuity throughout the school
· Build team, leadership, cooperation and organisation skills
· Encourage healthy competition and a spirit of camaraderie
· Provide students, staff and families with a sense of belonging and identity within the school
Every student from Foundation Stage 1 upwards is allocated to a house when they join the school, and they remain in the same house throughout their time at The British School. Siblings and family members are always in the same house, and teachers are also assigned to a house.
In the Secondary School, each house elects one teacher Head of House plus two Year 13 student Heads of House (one male, one female). Year group House Captains are elected each year and together they work as a team to help organise the many house events throughout the year.
In the Primary School, each house has a teacher Head of House who appoints two House Captains from Year 6 (one boy, one girl). In addition, pupils from Years 3-5 elect two House Leaders per year group per house (one boy, one girl).
Students gain house points /merits for academic, sporting, cultural and social achievements throughout the school. Every house point awarded to individuals, as well as those earned through inter- house events, are calculated for each house and updated scores can be found on Fronter. Each house has its own page on Fronter where you can find out about current events and general house related news. Some houses can even be followed on Twitter!
There are numerous House related competitions throughout the year, focusing not only on sport but on different areas of the curriculum. House assemblies take place once every half term in the Secondary School, and once a month in the Primary School. At the end of the year the winning house in the Primary School and the Secondary School is awarded the prestigious House Cup.
